Venue Highlight: Georgian Hall

Georgian Hall Athens Georgia

Venue Highlight: Georgian Hall Athens Georgia
Downtown Athens is the place to be to get a dose of all things fun and unique. It’s no wonder that so many couples wish to get married in the heart of the Classic City and lucky for them, there are a number of venues that will gladly fulfill their wish. Today, we want to highlight a historic venue that is especially worthy of recognition: Georgian Hall.

Georgian Hall Athens Georgia

Located right behind South Kitchen and Bar, the grand ballroom is the perfect place to celebrate your wedding. Built in the early 1900’s, Georgian Hall became a distinguished wedding venue and a “social focal point” for most of the 20th century. Fresh from recent restorative reconstruction, the special events venue is ready to once-again host spectacular weddings, just like it did in its glory days. The venue’s staff will provide bar and catering service to up to 250 people and can host both ceremonies and receptions.

With its original mosaic tile floor and large arched doors, Georgian Hall can be a perfect location to host a multitude of uniquely styled weddings. Keep it simple with with classic styling, since the architecture is amazing on its own. To get this look, use clusters of all white garden roses in mercury glass vases for centerpieces on taupe, blush or gray linens. Or get your glam on using a mix of luxe linens (we love La Tavola) and sequined table runners. Along with some amazing menu selections, The Georgian Hall provides all your tables, elegant chiavari chairs, and complimentary basic linens. A great value for the Athens area.

Additional venue details:

  • Comfortably seats 180 but can hold up to 250 guests
  • Catering and alcohol available
  • Tables and chairs available
  • Friendly and efficient staff
  • Indoor events only
  • Parking: No designated parking lots
  • “Flip” required with onsite ceremonies

Venue Spotlight: The Tree Room Athens Georgia

The Tree Room- Entrance

Looking for a unique outdoor location? A well kept Athens secret, The Tree Room is an amazing choice for a small wedding ceremony or event. Located in an old boiler room of a cotton warehouse, the venue is made up of exposed brick walls with a canopy of tree limbs as a ceiling. A modern terraced fountain holds koi fish down below, while higher up a balcony wraps the brick facade, offering a closer view to the stars. Well worth a visit, so check it out!

Creature Comforts Brewery, Athens, Georgia

I’ve been a fan of Creature Comforts Brewery since I first found out about them- and not just for their craft beers! Located in a warehouse that formerly housed a Chevy Dealership followed by a Tire Company, the building underwent a remarkable transformation- without sacrificing any of it’s historic charm. The original tinted garage door windows claim the front of the building, while inside, huge brewing tanks line up like dominoes along a back wall. Within, a vaulted ceiling of interwoven wood and steel beams overlook two bar areas, each featuring backsplash walls of reclaimed wood, colorful chalkboard menus, and copper pendant lights. As an event space, Creature Comforts Brewery is a unique addition to the list of venues in, and around, Athens. It offers up a trendy, industrial atmosphere to the Athens wedding scene, including a host of great brews!
The pics above give a glimpse of a recent photo shoot I put together at the Brewery. Thanks to Sara Wise of Sara Wise Photography for sharing the top pic with me at the shoot (and showing me some great photo editing apps:) Stay posted for more to come!!

The Day Chapel- Athens, Georgia

The Day Chapel, Athens, Georgia

The Day Chapel, Athens, Georgia

I recently visited The Day Chapel at the State Botanical Gardens in Athens, Georgia and was excited to check out some of the spaces the Garden rents out for wedding ceremonies and receptions.  My favorite building was definitely The Day Chapel, an amazingly detailed piece of architecture, done in the Arts and Crafts style.  Nestled among the trees, it offers a private and beautiful spot for a wedding ceremony and/or reception.
The Botanical Gardens also offers other spaces for weddings.  Among them The Terrace Room, where glass paneled French Doors open out onto a secluded brick courtyard and fountain and The Great Room.  As its name implies, The Great Room is a grand space featuring a two-story glass walled conservatory complete with hanging indoor plants and set lighting for the dance floor! Overall, both The Day Chapel and the other Garden spaces make great spots for an Athens Wedding! I’ll definitely be heading back soon to enjoy more of the outdoor garden areas:)

Fair Weather Farms, Monroe GA

This summer I had a great time visiting Fair Weather Farms in Monroe, Georgia- about 40 miles west of Athens and a great location for hosting a wedding reception or other special occasion. I was greeted warmly by Nichole, the Farm’s Coordinator, who gave me a fantastic tour of the scenic property. Among the highlights- a grand lodge featuring a wall of arched windows overlooking a flagstone patio and ancient Oak. Behind the Oak, an amazing view of the lake extends out past a wood dock- the perfect photo opportunity. Adjacent the lodge, lies a a screened-in barn area decked out in twinkling lights and perfect for a receptions.
Another perk-The farm is remote enough to let your band play the night away, but charming downtown Monroe is only a short drive away for out-of-town guests to find lodging, food, and shopping (antiques anyone?). To see how “Fair” this farm truly is check out my Pinterest board below. Originally shown on Style Me Pretty, the wedding images are all by Ryan Bernal, a talented photographer (as you can see) who I hope to get the chance to work with!

The Taylor Grady House

Earlier this week I went exploring for wedding and event venues and was lucky enough to get off to a great start with The Taylor Grady House in Downtown Athens. Caty and Elizabeth, The Event Coordinators for the property, greeted me warmly at the entrance and gave me a lovely tour of the house and grounds.   The layout is typical to some other older homes I’ve toured, with a central  foyer at the entry and larger rooms laid out on either side.  On the left, a large ballroom extends along the length of the house to a small, but fully equipped kitchen in the back.  On the right side of the house,  a smaller front room adjoins to a larger “dining” room, and attach in back to a central staircase.  All of this is on the first floor, including an exit to the back lawn and two restrooms.  The first floor also features a wonderful wrap around portico, overlooking the lawn and side boxwood garden.   Upstairs featured separate  bride and groom dressing areas on either side of a wide, expansive hallway and the bridal suite included a restroom.
The views from the back porch and side portico were my favorite part of the home.  I especially loved the boxwood garden!  I completely forgot to take pics inside, but I managed to snap a few of the outside.  As you can see, it really is a pretty place with some great features for hosting a wedding.  I’ve put together some great features below.

Thank you to Caty and Elizabeth for being so gracious and helpful-  they gave me the scoop on various possibilities for ceremony sites on the property (the boxwood garden has my vote!), how many people each room/outdoor area can accommodate, and much, much, more!  Now for the pics…

The back lawn and dance floor- great for a tent, can do around 300ppl outside (it’s bigger than it looks).
